8/9/14, Day, 13,976: Ozymandias
This day is so named for a (mostly) restful Saturday that ended with Heather and I binge watching three episodes of Breaking Bad, which is a luxury of time we almost never take. But it was worth it, as the series–which we abandoned for a while and which didn’t hold my interest for the first few seasons–has achieved in its fifth season a kind of garish, tragic splendor.
This was also a day of laundry, cooking at home (I tried my hand at onion rings for the first time and was very pleased with the result) and cleaning. In the morning, there was a flurry of Flux activity as we announced to the Friends of Flux the cast and creative team of Once Upon A Bride There Was A Forest. It’s important to us to always include that community first in big news, even if it’s only a day in advance of the more public announcement. We also launched the second annual Friends of Flux survey, which was transformative for us in improving that program last year.
8/10/14, Day, 13,977: Future Space Music
This (mostly) relaxed Saturday crashed into a strenuous Sunday. The morning began with a flurry of OUABTWAF public announcement activity, and then I was off to prepare for and run Flux Sunday before heading to McCoy’s for Flux’s Have Another Retreat Harvest. Have Another’s are always a really good time, and all the scenes acquitted themselves well (more on all of this on the Flux blog). I sometimes think about advocating for ending Have Anothers, because from a mission perspective I’m not sure they’re the best use of our limited time, but they’re just so much damn fun.
Technique never stands still: it only advances or retreats…

What small things did I do the past two days to help build the Honeycomb?
(And what does it mean to “Help build the honeycomb?”)
- Asked the U.S. so ratify Convention 189 and end domestic slavery;
- Asked Bumble Bee CEO to end practices that support the shark fin trade;
- Asked U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to maintain current levels of manatee protection;
- Asked my Congress reps to support bans on the ivory trade like New Jersey’s recently passed bill;
- Ate vegetarian and mostly local and organic.
